Cosmetic, Herbal Remedies for Stress

Did you know the word ‘cosmetic’ originates from the Greek word, ‘kosmos’, meaning order or adornment?

Life can be hectic at times. When did you last spend some quality time on yourself to unwind and set your priorities in order? If you feel adventurous, value green living and the homemade, here are a few herbal cosmetic ideas to try.

Lavender massage

1 1/2 cups Fresh Lavender blossoms
1 cup Almond Oil

- Put Lavender and Oil in a glass double boiler, cover it and allow the mixture to simmer for 30 minutes.

Thyme for a Facemask

Sage, Rosemary & Mint Shampoo

Here’s what you’ll need for this advanced concoction:

1 1/3 cups filtered water
1 tablespoon organic rosemary
1 tablespoon organic sage
2 teaspoons organic spearmint (or peppermint)
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
3 tablespoons organic aloe vera gel
1/2 teaspoon jojoba oil
25 drops organic rosemary essential oil

Firstly, boil the water in a saucepan. Remove from heat and add rosemary, sage and mint to the pan. Cover and let it steep for 30 to 45 minutes. Pour through a strainer, reserving the infused liquid. You can then transfer the liquid to a clean shampoo bottle. Finally, add castile soap, aloe vera gel, jojoba oil and essential oil. Shake before using.
