NEW PLANT LAUNCH: Yellow Chili Pepper

NEW PLANT LAUNCH: Yellow Chili Pepper

This just in, we have a new plant pod on the website. Please give a VERY warm, and spicy, welcome to Yellow Chili Pepper! Yellow Chili pepper is joining our already robust list of peppers on the site; we have Red Hot, Purple Chili, and Chili Pepper.

Unlike some of the other chilis on our site, Yellow Chili Pepper is a bit sweeter. Heat level is 30 000-50 000 shu, similar to cayenne and Tabasco, but still enough to give you an extra needed kick if you want.

Growth & Harvest:

  • Chilies are a bit slow to germinate so that it might take a while, up to 2 weeks. You can speed up the process by raising the temperature to 26℃ / 79℉.
  • Decrease the number of chili plants to one per refill to ensure enough space for the plant to grow.
  • Do not cut or prune your Chilli plant. It will form flowers to the tip of the plant.
  • Once your Chilli is flowering, the blossoms need to be pollinated. To help flowers pollinate, gently shake your plant or use a clean paint brush to move pollen from one flower to the next. You can also pollinate with your fingertip.
  • Chilies need some time to ripen, up to 90 days from planting the pods. Caring for the plant during this time consists of cleaning the plant from wilted leaves and dead flowers.
  • Yellow chili pepper ripens from green color to yellow (orange), but is edible and already has heat while it's green.
  • Once the fruits have ripened, the plant will slowly start to degrade. The chili pod has fulfilled its purpose to produce little chilies.

Beyond The Garden:

If you feel a true affection to your Chilli plant after harvesting its fruits, feel free to prune it and repot your plant to a more prominent pot with some fresh soil and create your very own chili bonsai - why not to start a new hobby.

Warning! The leaves and seeds of the Chilli can be hot too. It's always a good precaution to wash your hands after touching the chili plant. It’s also not a wise decision to scratch your eye or other gentle body parts after dealing with chili plants.
