Here at Click & Grow, we're a bunch of daydreamers. We often wonder "What if...?", and then try to turn those fantasies into reality. And we're super excited when we find people who do the same.

  • Just last week I attended the 28th EFFoST (The European Federation of Food, Science and Technology) conference in Uppsala, Sweden and did some notes.

Today it is estimated that the world population might rise to 10.5bln inhabitants by 2050. As some of us are starving already, it would mean that we would need to produce 75% more food! Yet, we are already using 90% of the arable land on the planet. Since we are losing huge amounts of land due to soil depletion every year, and we don't want to cultivate all parts of the remaining rain forests, we need to seek for solutions.

We’re all familiar with the decorative value of indoor plants. They’re beautiful additions to a room and can help to create a sense of comfort. But we often forget to consider the role of plants in creating a healthy indoor environment. Here are 4 not very widely known factors that support adding plants indoors:

    1. Plants help to fight colds. When people talk about precautionary measures which help to fight off colds, they usually mention dressing up warmly and occasionally drinking a cup of tea or two. But what about adding plants indoors?

  • Last week we asked our fans and customers to snap a picture of their smart garden and participate in our Spring Photo Contest. We are really excited to see that so many smart gardeners (is this a new term in the making?) have such a beautiful plants and that they shared them with the World.

Winners were authors of pictures that got the most votes, and our jury picked 3 more winners additionally. It was not an easy job to do because there were so many beautiful entries! All receive their favourite plant refills as prizes.

Here are the winners with comments from our gardener Priit.

Basically, the Click & Grow fertilization system is a mineral-organic hybrid.

We reproduce normal "soil" conditions by decomposing organic components by microbiological means. The same mechanism happens in nature - leaves fall and are turned back into soil. This natural plant feeding process is boosted by our hi-tech mineral release system. The latter uses nanotechnology to supply plant roots with elements that are currently in minimum (see picture). This eliminates most of the plants diseases and ails caused by bad nutrition.

Stevia or "Sugar Leaf" might not be the poshest representative of the plant kingdom - no bright flowers or coloured leaves, but this plant has some inner qualities that once tried are hard to forget.

  • As someone with a track record of being able to kill a cactus, I was obviously the perfect choice to test out the Click & Crow’s new smart gardens, although I call them pots. No pun intended. So basically, if those poor plants survive me, the company could sell these pots to… well, pretty much to everyone. You could buy the pot for your daughter and let her imaginary friend take care of it.

    Background

The chili pepper, also known as chile pepper or chilli pepper, is the fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum. It’s estimated that Chili peppers have been a part of the human diet since at least 7500 BC. Archaeological evidence at sites located in Southwestern-Ecuador suggest that chili peppers were domesticated more than 6000 years ago. Astonishing!

Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) originates from Europe and it has been cultivated in the Mediterranean region for around 2000 years. The plant is widely known for its health benefits. For example, it’s known that Charles V, the King of France in the 14th century, drank Lemon Balm tea every day to stay in good health.
